My 8th Weekly Recap. Here’s a few things I found interesting while working on a projection mapping job.
I’ll start with Houdini, this isn’t new to me, but it comes up all the time and I thought it worth mentioning. If you use MOPs and want to see your falloff on your geo, not as sprites, turn off the packed fragments option.
Fun with VOPs. I needed to add color variation to a series of objects. First thought was a for each loop, but I wanted to try something different. Here I fed in a class attribute generated from the connectivity sop and drove the “shift” amount on an hueshift VOP.
In Touchdesigner most of my work is done. I’ve been dialing in settings, using what I’ve built for previz. I was fighting a delay between my triggers and their audio feedback. Dropping the audio buffer length on the device out CHOP helps a ton. Go to far and you’ll know it.
Working with composers is really fun. On the last few projects I’ve been given the MIDI files for the custom scores. I tweak the files to suit my needs. In Reaper you can select your notes, right click, and change which channel where the notes are assigned. Good for organization.
Then in TD on your MIDI In CHOP you can specify the channel and note range you want. This is mainly organizational, but in some instances where the same note could be used for various instruments, it’s also useful.
This also works exactly the same when bringing MIDI files into Houdini.
That’s it, another week in the books. Thanks for reading and following. Hope some of these small tips are useful.
