Its Friday. I’m back from a weeks vacation and it’s time for my fourth What I Found weekly recap. This week is a shorter one, I mostly worked on a heavy editorial section on my current project, but also squeezed in a little CHOP work in Houdini.
Again, this project will end up in Touchdesigner and all content is in UV space… this makes visualizing an edit rough. A nice solution for this is NDI. You can take NDI (video over IP ) out of Premiere or AE directly into Touch to view live on your model all in realtime.
You’ll want to install the NDI packages for Adobe, then enable the output in the preferences. Also keep “Disable video out when in background” turned off. Download here.
Then in TD you just need to bring your feed in via the NDI In TOP. Now your edited content plays back realtime on your model in and you can keep building on top of this or use it as an element, it’s really really flexible.
In Houdini I was able to tap out rhythms matching audio using the Keyboard In CHOP. I use 3 keys to generate 3 tracks, one per tonal element in the music. This is a really fast way to get pulses for animations. I did a longer form tut on it a while back. Check it out here.
That’s about it. Like I said, short and sweet. I spent the bulk of my week editing and fighting with things that aren’t worth talking about inside TD. More to come next week. Thanks as always.
