Last week went by fast and I was so busy on Friday, I forgot to make my recap. A couple days late, but here it is. Float values and Lookups in Touchdesigner and a Houdini workflow tip for making HDAs.
This week I’ll start with Houdini. If you’ve ever made your own HDAs check this out. You can drag / drop parameters from anywhere inside the subnet to the parameters page of the main subnet to create your controls. Much faster than creating params, then linking them.
When comping in TD each TOP will inherit the color space of the incoming TOP. If you’re brining in material that’s not float, when you do an add, those values will be clamped. But if you start float, or explicitly tell TD to convert and work in float, you get unclamped values.
Now with those unclamped values, you can do more interesting things with lookups. You’ll need to adjust the index range. Big thanks to @s2gfx(Florian) for showing me this and lots of other things about TD I’d otherwise have no clue about.
Now you can remap the color values to have more interesting results as the values go over 1. Here colors gradually reach white as more and more instances of the video are added together.
For a busy week, that doesn’t seem like a lot, but it sure felt like it. Hope everyone had a good weekend, and is ready for another week.
